The Brand Behind The 2024 Australian Olympic Uniforms

The stage is prepared, & in the coming weeks, athletes and revellers will converge on the City of Light for the 2024 Summer Olympics. For organisers and those competing, the Paris event represents the culmination of over four years of planning, training & dedication. Meanwhile, for viewers watching from the sidelines—or more accurately, from screens – the excitement will officially commence with July 26’s opening ceremony. Given that this event is taking place in one of the world’s fashion capitals, a prominent question arises: “Who supplied the Australian Olympic uniforms?”

The Australian Olympic uniforms have been supplied by the iconic Australian brand Sportscraft. This marks the tenth occasion that Sportscraft has created symbolic apparel for Australia’s Olympic athletes. This year’s designs draw heavily from Parisian style, melding contemporary sporting elements with timeless fashion. The traditional green & gold color scheme – often challenging to make chic – has been refreshed through more vibrant hues. Detailing on each piece, such as sparkling gold trim nodding to Paris as the City of Light, underscores the thoughtful design process.

At first glance, the Australian Olympic uniforms may appear to be a classic linen look; however, each uniform is meticulously crafted with both form and functionality in mind – along with hidden details paying homage to Australia’s Olympic heritage. “Functionality is paramount in our designs,” stated Sportscraft CEO Elisha Hopkinson, highlighting how lightweight European linen and stretch fabrics ensure comfort and flexibility for athletes. Additionally, Australian cotton has been incorporated into these designs to champion local farming industries and promote sustainability. Notably, the jacket lining features names of every Australian Olympic gold medallist from Athens 1896 to Tokyo 2020. For the first time ever, the Australian Olympians’ oath has been stitched into an inside pocket.

Furthermore, this year marks a milestone as Sportscraft integrates Indigenous artwork into the Olympic Opening Ceremony uniform for the first time. One artwork by Olympic Boxer Paul Fleming titled ‘Walking Together’ illustrates each Olympian’s journey – depicting these Games as a central meeting point uniting different nations & backgrounds towards a shared goal. Additionally, Torres Strait artist David Bosun’s artwork ‘Our Way of Life’ graces men’s blazer pocket squares. To view the uniform designs on the Sportscraft site, click here.
